How to Fit a Velux Window to a Tiled Roof in Worcestershire
At Webster Roofcare Limited, we understand the importance of natural light in a home. One of the most effective ways to bring in more light is by installing a Velux window. In this article, we will guide you through the process of fitting a Velux window to a tiled roof in Worcestershire.
Preparation is Key
Before starting the installation process, ensure that you have the following materials:
- Velux window
- Flashing kit
- Roofing felt
- Insulation
- Spray adhesive
- Tiles and slate (if necessary)
- Measuring tape
- Safety gear (hard hat, gloves, etc.)
Step 1: Measure the Roof
Measure the distance between the rafters to determine the correct size of the Velux window. The standard sizes are 550mm, 660mm, 780mm, and 940mm. Make sure to choose the correct size to avoid any complications during the installation process.
Step 2: Mark the Roof
Use a marker to mark the center point of the Velux window on the roof. Measure 300mm from the center point to mark the position of the first rafter. Repeat this process to mark the position of the second rafter.
Step 3: Cut the Roof
Use a circular saw to cut through the roofing felt and the tiles or slate. Cut along the marked lines, making sure to leave a 10mm gap between the cut edges.
Step 4: Remove the Tiles or Slate
Carefully remove the tiles or slate from the marked area. Use a hammer and chisel to remove any remaining debris.
Step 5: Install the Flashing Kit
Apply a layer of spray adhesive to the flashing kit and attach it to the roof. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for the correct installation process.
Step 6: Install the Velux Window
Place the Velux window into the marked area, ensuring that it is centered and secure. Use the flashing kit to seal the edges of the window.
